Dr Nyiko E Vukeya obtained his MBChB through a joint programme between Cuba and the University of KwaZulu-Natal, completing his studies in 2019. Since then, he has worked as a general practitioner, providing day-to-day medical care to patients in Giyani and the surrounding area.

His path into medicine began early. As a boy, he watched an elder in his community receive treatment for a chronic illness at a nearby clinic. Seeing that care firsthand gave him a clear sense of what he wanted to do with his own life, and it continues to shape how he approaches his work today. That kind of everyday, community-based care can play an important role in how people experience and navigate the healthcare system.

That experience did not fade with time. It followed him through his studies and into the decisions he makes about how a general practice should run: close to the community it serves, and geared towards the conditions that affect people day to day rather than only the dramatic cases.

At Dr NE Vukeya Inc, consultations cover the full range of general practice, from chronic disease screening and management to antenatal care, child health, men's and women's health, and the medical documentation many patients need for everyday life, including certificates, fitness assessments and SASSA applications.

Outside of the consulting room, Dr Vukeya spends time reading current medical research and staying up to date with clinical guidelines. He treats this reading as part of the job, a way of making sure that what happens in each consultation reflects current thinking in general practice.

Medicine changes constantly, and guidelines around conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and antenatal care are updated as new evidence comes through. Keeping pace with that is treated as an ordinary part of running a general practice, not an extra.

The practice is set up to make follow-up care straightforward, whether that means a routine chronic disease review, a repeat prescription, or documentation needed for work or school.

Appointments at Dr NE Vukeya Inc can be booked in person, online, or through WhatsApp, whichever suits you best.

The practice is based at Vahlavi Plaza in Giyani, and new patients are welcome alongside those returning for ongoing care.
